I’ve been thinking

I’ve been thinking recently about our fragile environment here in Southeast Louisiana. Did you know, for example, that the dirty pipeline will end in our wetlands? Dirty freaking energy for export. Greed upon greed. Profits before people. Or, that everything outside of the flood wall will be under water in my lifetime. That makes my family members and friends impending climate change refugees. Not to be gloomy, but I gave up hope of a permanent residence back in 1983. We must be mobile water babies learning to navigate through our floating parishes. We will say no to manifest destiny and frivolous consumption before the rest of the nation, I am sure of it. Because we will be the first Americans to see our solid land wash away. And we will cry warning and environmental justice to the rest. Let us hope our voices don’t fall upon deaf ears.
