She rides her bareback like they used to ’round here back in the day. Every girl Down the Road has a horse at one time or another. Then maybe your parents can’t afford the $30 a week in food or your dad has to sell it to pay child support, or it steps on your baby sister one day and, poof, there goes your horse. Shyly is lucky, though. Her people rescue horses and pit bulls so she’ll never go without a pony or a dog.
