Some really good stuff coming out of this idea of turning Chalmetia! into a Dystopia, which is a sub-genre of Science Fiction. Obviously, there will be a heavy, heavy environmental edge.
Now that we’re thinking about it and talking about it, I realize that I am more informed than I thought I was. I took a course in grad school on Utopian/Dystopian literature. I’d forgotten about that. Sometimes it’s good to take an inventory of my experiences.
I seem to have naturally gravitated toward watching Dystopias. Some of my fave films are: “12 Monkeys,” “Fisher King,” and “Brazil.” But, visually, we do not want to go this far. We want our dystopia, but we want to shoot it like social realism, which worked really well with “Destiny lives Down the Road.”
Check out this picture of the Refinery on Picture Truths. It almost looks like some evil, polluting conglomerate. Priceless.
