Here is Spencer Rowell lighting on set for the Elektrik production “Fragile.” I met Spencer when I lived on Greek Street in London’s Soho district. His photography studio was right below my flat. Back in the day, Spencer became quite famous for a picture he took of a shirtless guy holding a baby. The photo was made into a poster and millions were sold. The thing even has its own Wikipedia page. When we met him, he was over the celebrity. He was ready to get back to the grit of shooting moving image on film. We conceptualized the film together. He brought his Bolex and decades of knowledge to the project. I sold my jewelry, and secured a rat-infested location. Patrick envisioned the stark look and neon color palette, and “Fragile” was born. The film is about the psychological self-torture women often subject themselves to. Tomorrow is International Women’s Day. “Fragile” will screen at Art Klub in New Orleans alongside other female centric films. A side note is that Spencer gave us our first paid job out of film school. It was well paid, and we got to run 44 rolls of 35mm film through an Arri over the course of six days. Good God! Spencer has acted as mentor to Patrick during our London days.
