It’s the crack of dawn, and these crabbing brothers have been hooking and shaking crab traps for two hours already. It’s brutally hard work that is dying out because of many reasons, but one of them is that Louisianans can’t physically work this hard anymore. We are too sick and tired. There are pipelines, and subsidence, and climate change and oil spills. There is a whole world of greed out there that cares nothing for our way of life. When the crabs and the oysters go the way of the wetlands, we will be at the end of it, my friends. We can kiss our bounty goodbye. But, for now, the brothers need to get these traps baited and switched.
