The next best thing to a dog for a boy is a robotic dinosaur named Rolf. Look how Rolf leans into the crook of the boy’s arm, snuggling almost. It’s just plastic and a sophisticated motherboard, but when Rolf roars, oh, what excitement comes over the boy’s face. “I can’t believe my eyes,” he says. He wants to bring him to the grocery store, to the park, out into the snow. His aunt is busy knitting Rolf a jumper and some Dino booties for such an occasion. Until then Rolf will have to stay inside, deactivated and silent when the boy is away. And when the boy returns, Rolf will raise his plastic dinosaur head and roar salutations.
