This was the second project we made with Mr. Joe Ockman, one of our elderly muses. We met Mr. Joe and his wife, Mz. Dussy, through my mom who was caring for Mz. Dussy during the late stages of her Alzheimers. Joe appeared in “Little Baby Eyes” and “Destiny lives Down the Road” as well as in the photographs, stories and feature film that made up our multi-media exhibit “Chalmetia: a fictional place Down the Road.” He was one of our most prolific collaborators. We had the honor of celebrating his 100th birthday with him. He died the next day as if to say: “That’s me gone.”
Side note: My family have brought to us nearly all of the stories we’ve told. They have a sense for it. I’ve been telling my family stories in fiction and documentary for over 4 decades. They are natural story catchers and drama makers.
